The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar commemorated World Radio Day with an insightful academic visit to 94.3 My FM. The visit provided students with first-hand exposure to the dynamic world of radio broadcasting, enabling them to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world media practices.

Upon arrival at the station, students were warmly welcomed by RJ Reet and RJ Deepal, who conducted an engaging and interactive session. The RJs introduced students to the intricate functioning of a professional radio studio, explaining the technical and creative processes that ensure seamless live broadcasting. From understanding studio console operations to mastering voice modulation techniques, students gained valuable insights into the art of effective communication.

The session covered essential aspects of radio production, including scripting, sound engineering, content curation, audience engagement strategies, and timing precision. The RJs elaborated on “how meticulous planning, coordination, and teamwork play a crucial role in sustaining uninterrupted transmission.” Students were also acquainted with the technical framework that supports live shows and the collaborative efforts required behind the scenes to deliver engaging content to listeners.

Adding depth to the session, RJ Reet emphasised the emotional power of the medium, stating, “Radio is not merely a platform; it is a powerful emotional bridge that connects voices to hearts. Effective communication is the soul of this medium.” Echoing this sentiment, RJ Deepal remarked, “Behind every broadcast lies meticulous planning, technical precision, and teamwork. Understanding this process empowers aspiring media professionals to appreciate the discipline the industry demands.”

The visit was not limited to observation alone. Students actively engaged with the workflow of the station, witnessing live broadcasting procedures and interacting directly with industry professionals. They created short reels and vlogs documenting their experiences, creatively reflecting on their learning outcomes. Thought-provoking discussions were also held on contemporary media trends, ethical journalism, and emerging career opportunities in the broadcasting sector.

The exposure proved to be intellectually enriching and professionally motivating. By observing real-time studio operations, students were able to connect theoretical concepts such as media production, communication ethics, and audience analysis with practical application. The experience strengthened their understanding of the discipline, adaptability, and creativity required in the fast-paced media industry.

Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra expressed her appreciation for the initiative, stating, “At Apeejay College of Fine Arts, our objective is to ensure that students receive experiential exposure aligned with their academic pursuits. Practical learning complements classroom instruction and equips learners with confidence, clarity, and competence.” She commended the dedicated efforts of Ms. Ritu Sohal, Dr. Nivedita Khosla, and Mr. Mohit from the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication for organising the visit and mentoring the students. She further encouraged faculty members to continue facilitating such industry interactions to broaden students’ professional horizons.

Overall, the World Radio Day visit stood as a meaningful educational endeavor, reinforcing the importance of experiential learning in shaping competent and industry-ready media professionals.
