Recently, Apeejay School, Tanda Road, Jalandhar, celebrated the joyous festival of Baisakhi with great enthusiasm and cultural fervour. The celebration was a beautiful amalgamation of traditional values, vibrant performances and hands-on learning, helping students understand the deep-rooted significance of this important festival.

The celebration began with a thoughtful PowerPoint presentation that helped students learn about Vaisakhi’s dual importance. The presentation explained how Vaisakhi is celebrated as both a harvest festival in Punjab and a day of historical importance marking the birth of Khalsa Panth. This informative segment set the tone for the day, helping students understand the spiritual and agricultural relevance of the festival.

Cultural performances light up the stage

Following the presentation, students took to the stage to express their excitement and understanding of the festival through cultural activities. These included poems, spirited traditional dances and heartfelt speeches. Each performance reflected the students’ appreciation of their rich cultural heritage. The dances, in particular, brought energy to the atmosphere, as students dressed in colourful attire performed to lively Punjabi tunes.

The Pre-Primary Wing of the school added a delightful creative element to the celebration. The young learners took part in age-appropriate craft activities that connected them with the festival’s agricultural and cultural themes.

Nursery students enthusiastically used fingerprinting techniques to create art representing the golden wheat crop, symbolising the harvest season.

LKG students displayed their artistic talent by making dhols using disposable glasses, linking the craft to traditional Punjabi music.

UKG students created 3-D paper wheat crafts, beautifully capturing the essence of rural life and farming traditions.

These activities not only encouraged creativity but also helped the young children understand the meaning behind the celebration in a fun and engaging way.

Principal’s appreciation and message

Principal Ms Sangeeta Nistandra addressed the gathering and congratulated the students and teachers for their enthusiastic participation. She praised the vibrant cultural performances and the creativity shown in the craft activities. Applauding the spirit of celebration, she encouraged the students to take pride in their cultural roots and continue to value India’s rich traditions.

The event, at Apeejay School, Tanda Road, was not just a celebration but a meaningful educational experience that fostered awareness, appreciation and joy among the students. It beautifully captured the essence of Baisakhi – a festival of gratitude, unity, and pride in one’s heritage.
