Marking the global observance of International Mother Language Day, proclaimed by UNESCO to promote linguistic and cultural diversity, the Literary & Dramatics Club of Apeejay Institute of Management & Engineering Technical Campus (AIMETC), Jalandhar, organised a poetic recitation competition titled “Maa Boli Punjabi”. The event was a heartfelt tribute to the richness, heritage, and emotional depth of the Punjabi language, encouraging students to celebrate and express themselves creatively in their mother tongue.
The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across various academic programmes. Participants recited both self-composed poems and celebrated works of eminent Punjabi poets such as Waris Shah and Shiv Kumar Batalvi. The auditorium resonated with soulful expressions, evocative verses, and powerful emotions that reflected pride in linguistic roots and admiration for Punjabi literary brilliance. Each performance highlighted the timeless relevance of the language and its profound cultural significance.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Rajesh Bagga, Director, AIMETC, appreciated the initiative and emphasised the importance of preserving regional languages in an increasingly globalised world. He remarked that the celebration served as a meaningful platform for students to reconnect with their cultural identity and understand the significance of safeguarding linguistic heritage. He further encouraged students to continue embracing and promoting their mother tongue alongside academic and professional pursuits.
The event culminated with the announcement of results, recognising the outstanding poetic talent and expressive skills of the participants. Aditi (B.Tech CSE II) and Rinkle (BBA IV) secured the First Position for their compelling recitations and confident delivery. The Second Position was jointly secured by Arshveer Singh (MCA II) and Tushaar (B.Com Hons IV), who impressed the judges with their emotional depth and articulation. Ojaswi (BBA IV) was awarded the Third Position for a heartfelt and engaging performance. The winners were applauded for their originality, stage presence, and command over language.

The programme was successfully conducted under the guidance and coordination of faculty members Ms. Kanika Chopra, Mr. Rahul Handa, and Ms. Amarjit Kaur, whose meticulous planning ensured smooth execution. The audience lauded the participants for their confidence, expressive narration, and authenticity.
Through “Maa Boli Punjabi,” the institution reaffirmed its commitment to fostering cultural awareness, literary appreciation, and respect for linguistic diversity. The celebration not only honored the essence of Punjabi but also embodied the true spirit of International Mother Language Day—unity in diversity through language and culture.
