International Yoga Day is celebrated every year to raise awareness worldwide about the many benefits of practicing yoga. The day was proposed by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and was officially adopted by the United Nations in 2014. Marking its importance, Apeejay Institute of Management & Engineering Technical Campus (AIMETC) , Jalandhar organised a comprehensive yoga session on campus under the global theme: “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”
The event highlighted the holistic benefits of yoga and its power to harmonize physical, mental, and emotional well-being. The session commenced with an insightful address by Dr. Rajesh Bagga, Director of AIMETC, who emphasised the transformative role of yoga in promoting wellness, inner peace, emotional stability, and resilience.
Dr Bagga shared, “Yoga is more than physical exercise; it is a journey of uniting the body, mind, and breath. Its positive impact on health becomes addictive in the best sense – encouraging discipline, harmony, mental clarity. It not only benefits individuals but also strengthens families and builds compassionate communities.”
The session was led by Mr. Rohit Verma, Assistant Professor, School of Information Technology, and included demonstrations of various yoga asanas, pranayama, and stretching exercises to combat stress, depression, fatigue, cervical pain, backaches, and obesity.
In an informative segment, Dr. Bagga also addressed the concept of alkaline vs. acidic body pH , advocating for a slightly alkaline internal balance to boost immunity and prevent diseases. He recommended integrating yoga, pranayama, and natural wellness practices like lemon, ginger, honey, and apple cider vinegar into daily routines.
The celebration reflected a global vision of yoga as a tool for sustainable health—not only for individuals, but for communities and the planet.
The session concluded with a collective call to embrace yoga as a regular practice for a mindful, peaceful, and healthier life.
