The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a directive instructing educational institutions to fill their vacant positions and report the recruitment status by July 31, 2024.

According to the UGC’s official notification, all universities, deemed universities, and colleges are urged to promptly address and fill any vacant positions. Institutions must also upload the recruitment status on the UGC’s university activity monitoring portal by the specified deadline.

The notification emphasises the importance of taking immediate and serious steps to ensure that all vacancies, both in universities and affiliated colleges, are filled. This directive aims to maintain the quality of education and ensure that institutions are adequately staffed.

The University Grants Commission (Minimum Qualifications for Appointment of Teachers and other Academic Staff in Universities and Colleges and other Measures for the Maintenance of Standards in Higher Education) Regulations, 2018, outlines the minimum qualifications for the appointment and service conditions of university and college teachers. These regulations are designed to uphold the standards of higher education and ensure that qualified personnel are appointed to academic positions.

In summary, the UGC mandates that educational institutions prioritise filling vacant positions and report their progress on the UGC portal by July 31, 2024. This directive is in line with the 2018 regulations that stipulate the qualifications and service conditions for academic staff, aiming to uphold and enhance the standards of higher education in the country.
