Independence Day at Apeejay School, Tanda Road in Jalandhar was celebrated with a lot of patriotic zeal. It turned out that the galaxy of enthralling programmes was an outburst of patriotism and an amalgam of pride that kept both the students and viewers alike enthralled. There was a perfect blend of cultural homage and exuberance of youth that marked this day in the calendar full of colours of the Tricolour and resonant echoes of national pride.
The day’s celebrations began with flag hoisting by Ms Deepti Kaushal, the school coordinator. More of a ritual, flag hoisting was very proud and emotionally elevating for one and all present. The fluttering Tricolour set a tone for the day and brought to the minds of one and all the martyrdom of numerous freedom fighters.
Cultural Programme
After hoisting the flag, students filled the air with foot-tapping beats and tunes of India. Incredible India was one such excellent performance wherein students took away the breath of the participants through their enchanting and emotive dance performance. The pre-Primary students stole hearts with their skit-cum-dance performance — Bharat Ki Veer Gatha — portraying stories of bravery and patriotism through their naivety yet deep enactments.
A role play titled Veer Bhagat Singh by the Primary section students was one of the other presentations that brought out the bottomless talent pit that Apeejay School is. Every performance was not a skill showcase but an impassioned tribute to the heroes who gave their all to the Motherland.

Inspiration through Words
Added to this cultural festivity was an inspirational speech voiced by a class VI student. While addressing the assembly, he did point quite eloquently at what independence means to him and how the ideals set by our ancestors continue to be very relevant.
Other than the cultural programmes, there were theme-based activities in which all students from classes I to XII had full participation. The programme design, reminiscent of the National Flag, was to instil in the minds of the students a feeling of national pride. Be it the tricolour-themed-based food that the pre-primary kids relished or making flowers and badges as part of craft activities, every class came up with its own way of complimenting the theme of the day. Quizzes, poster-making, and kite-making by the seniors imbibed the feeling of freedom.
The celebrations closed with the National Anthem sung in unison, and it reverberated across the college campus, striking the note of unity and patriotism in the heart of one and all.
The Independence Day programme at Apeejay School, Tanda Road, was as enthusiastic as ever. The patriotic spirit of this great and variegated tapestry of Indian culture that it represented in an infinitesimally small way was lavish. It revived the many memories of the past and those innumerable sacrifices laid on the altar of freedom and provided impetus to the torchbearers of the future.
