“Sports teach us the value of discipline, teamwork, and determination, preparing us for every challenge in life.” Sports play a vital role in nurturing discipline, teamwork, resilience, and a healthy spirit of competition among young learners. They not only ensure physical fitness but also instill values such as perseverance, leadership, and sportsmanship. To reinforce these ideals, Apeejay School, Greater Noida, celebrated National Sports Day with great zeal, commemorating the birth anniversary of the legendary hockey wizard, Major Dhyan Chand.

The day began with a special assembly, thoughtfully designed to highlight the significance of sports and fitness in shaping young minds. The ceremony commenced with the Lighting of the Torch, symbolising the flame of determination and passion. A heartfelt speech and tribute to Major Dhyan Chand reminded everyone of his contribution to Indian hockey and his inspiring sportsmanship.

To uphold the values of integrity in sports, the Sports Oath was administered by Navya Singh (XII), while the Fit India Pledge was led by Geetanshu Gupta (XI). The occasion was further enriched by a welcome address from Mrs Maninder Kaur, who encouraged students to incorporate sporting activities into their holistic education.

Adding to the vibrancy of the day, the fitness segment featured a Yoga Demonstration by Ms Poonam Rana, displaying balance and mindfulness, followed by a lively Aerobics and Zumba performance by Ms Jolly Ghosh, which filled the atmosphere with energy.

The event then moved into sports activities designed for all age groups. For Classes VI-VIII, a spirited Walkathon was organised, while Classes IX-XII showcased their competitive streak in a Relay Race. The middle school students (Classes III-V) engaged in fun competitions like Tug of War, 50m Race, and Hurdle Race, while the youngest learners, from Nursery to Class II, took part in playful events such as Tunnel Race, Colour Hunt, and Collect the Ball, radiating pure joy. A major highlight of the day was the Students vs Teachers Volleyball Match, which was greeted with loud cheers, creating a lively bond between the two groups.

The celebrations concluded on a high note, marked by cheerful faces, enthusiastic participation, and renewed recognition of the role sports play in fostering discipline, confidence, and overall growth. As the famous saying reminds us: “The will to win is important, but the will to prepare is vital.”
