Teachers play a pivotal role in shaping the lives of children at school. Beyond imparting academic knowledge, their influence extends to various aspects of a student’s personal and social development, expresses Jagchintan Singh Kalra whose son Aveer is studying in the nursery at Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park.
Excerpts from the interview
Why did you select Apeejay as an admission choice for your child?
There were a couple of criteria that got fulfilled at Apeejay, one being the proximity of the school from home and second I have been residing in Malviya Nagar for 35 years now and whenever I would cross this school, I thought to put my son into this school, like a wish to be granted. All this happened because of the great reputation this school has. When we got the opportunity to visit the school last year, I noticed the superb state-of-the-art infrastructure including a fantastic playground.
What is the positive impact school has brought on your child?
There are so many. I would like to bring to your notice that this generation of children belongs to what we call ‘Covid children’. They had been at home since they were born. My son is of the same generation and I have noticed that such children lack social skills and are generally very shy because of a lack of outside exposure. Now since the time Aveer has been going to school, he has become an extrovert, and his communication skills — socially and personally have also improved markedly. He has started to understand a lot about his surroundings and tells me stories about every small and big thing going on in his life.
How are the extracurricular activities at the school?
We have enrolled our son in one of the extracurricular activities — the Sports Guru. It happens twice a week and my son loves it to the core. And the days he is not occupied with that, he still makes sure that he spends an hour playing any sport with me.
How are the teachers at the school?
I just love the way teachers conduct themselves with the children and with the parents at this school. They respond to us so effectively that the experience often becomes overwhelming. Our bonding with the teachers is full of respect and acknowledgment. I would love it if the same teachers continue till KG and other standards.
How much do you identify with the adage – that school is the second home for a child?
I agree with the adage 100 per cent. There has never been a day that Aveer has said that he doesn’t want to go to school. Honestly, I am very happy with the school and its curriculum. Also, I would like to mention that the different events that the school organises are a big boost to the development of children. There was a recent event called – The Grandparents Day, which my parents loved. So it’s a happy feeling shared amongst all of us.
