Engaging students in global discussions fosters critical thinking and cultural awareness. Activities like virtual conferences enhance their understanding of pressing issues, encourage collaboration, and inspire them to take proactive steps in addressing challenges such as biodiversity loss and environmental sustainability.

Recently, Apeejay School Saket hosted an engaging virtual conference for class IX students, connecting them with peers globally. Participants included students from Laurynas Ivanauskas School in Lithuania, CETYS University in Mexico, and various schools from India like Delhi International School and MBS School of Planning and Architecture.

The theme of the conference was “Biodiversity and Its Challenges in a Changing World,” with a particular focus on the growing issue of plastic waste and its impact on the environment. The event aimed to foster collaborative learning, encouraging students to explore different countries’ approaches to biodiversity conservation.

“Global connection fosters understanding, bridges cultures, and empowers us to collaborate beyond borders, shaping a more inclusive and innovative world. Connecting and discussing biodiversity is crucial because biodiversity transcends national boundaries, and its preservation requires global cooperation,” Mrs Deepa Chopra, TGT Computer Science said,

“Education is the key to fostering global citizens who are equipped to tackle the challenges of sustainability, inspiring them to think critically, act compassionately, and innovate for a better world. At Apeejay Saket, we encourage students to think globally. This video conference was part of our endeavour in this direction,” MsSarita Chawla, Incharge Middle School Department added.

Through lively discussions, participants examined the vital role biodiversity plays in sustaining life on Earth and shared innovative strategies to mitigate pollution and its detrimental effects on natural habitats.

The initiative, part of the RIDS Program for class IX students, centred around the theme River Odyssey, emphasising the interconnectedness of ecosystems and the importance of protecting our planet. The conference not only enhanced students’ understanding of environmental issues but also promoted global awareness and cooperation in addressing these critical challenges.
