Recently, Apeejay School, Noida, celebrated Hindi Diwas with great enthusiasm. The event aimed to promote the significance of the Hindi language and its cultural heritage among students. Students from classes II to V took part in this celebration, which focused on encouraging the correct use of Hindi and fostering a deeper appreciation for one of India’s official languages. The day is observed annually on September 14 to honour the adoption of Hindi as the official language of India in 1949, and this event was organised to highlight its relevance today.

Ms Ruby Bhatnagar, Head of the Hindi Department at Apeejay School, Noida, explained, “Hindi Day is celebrated every year on September 14 because on this day in 1949, Hindi was declared the official language.” She also emphasised, “Since then, Hindi has been considered a very important language, and even though our children often speak in English, when it comes to expressing their feelings, they tend to do so in Hindi independently.”

Various engaging activities were planned for the students to make the celebration both fun and educational. They participated in picture comprehension, vocabulary building, nameplate making, and poster making, all designed to enhance their linguistic skills. These activities not only allowed the students to enjoy learning Hindi in creative ways but also helped them strengthen their understanding of the language’s importance in everyday communication.

The Principal, Vice-principal, and Primary In-charge visited the classrooms during the celebration and interacted with the students. They discussed the significance of Hindi as an official language and the importance of using it in daily life. Their interaction inspired students to take pride in their linguistic heritage and understand the cultural richness associated with the language.

The celebration was successful in achieving its goal of promoting Hindi while enhancing the language skills of the students. It deepened their connection with Hindi and gave them a better understanding of its vital role in India’s linguistic diversity. Through these activities, the students not only improved their knowledge of the language but also gained a sense of cultural pride and responsibility toward preserving and using Hindi in their daily lives.
