This parent’s children study at Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg – Gaurika (Nursery) and Udhav (UKG) – and it was a conscious decision that this mother made that ensured that her kids study here. Two generations on her in-laws’ side of the family are Apeejaytes, says Archana Chhabra.
“It was obvious that I would choose Apeejay when it was time for Udhav to start his education. And since he is in the Mahavir Marg, it followed that Gaurika too joins the same school. My husband, his brother, and my sister-in-law are from this school. Their kids also go to this school,” Archana said.
In an impromptu interview, this former teacher says that she always recommends this school to anybody and everybody who asks her advice on which school to choose as she is enamoured by this school.
How much did it help that you knew about the ins and outs of this school?
It was the reason that convinced me to choose Apeejay School. When you know how the teachers are, the result the school gives, and the caliber of the students who pass out from this school, it just reiterates your belief in that system. My husband is a Chartered Accountant. A lot of other pass puts of this school are doctors. The who-is-who of Jalandhar’s kids study here as well. This school ensures that the child will end up doing something good in life. I want my children to pursue good careers in the future. Studying here will be a step in the right direction.
What were the other considerations that made you choose Apeejay?
The Mahavir Marg branch places a lot of focus on academics as well as extracurricular activities. My children with academics needed to be part of other activities to build their overall personality. It is necessary in today’s world that children have holistic development.

How are your kids doing in their studies?
Overall, both my kids are intelligent. I am not saying this because I am a biased mother but I have been a teacher and understand the child’s calibre. What is amazing at this school is that when you speak to any student here and they will know about every topic – current and otherwise – depending on what class they are in. Every Apeejayite can hold an intelligent conversation with an adult.
What are some of the things that your kids have picked up now they are going to school?
There were a few learning gaps during the COVID-19 lockdown. But ever since they started going to school there has been a marked improvement. My daughter has started speaking in English and can recite rhymes. I have to make very little effort at home to teach them. Most of the work is done in the classroom itself.
My son, unfortunately, is lagging behind a bit. But the teachers tell me that I don’t have to worry and he will catch up soon.
What are the high points here?
The teachers are amazing. The activities that the teachers make the students do are very nice. It makes it easy for these toddlers to learn any topic easily. Nowhere is the child required to rote learn; everything is done interactively.
Take an example. My son’s teacher, Sarika ma’am, explains everything so nicely that Udhav has no problem in comprehending what is being taught. All he has to do is revise it once he is at home and he is good to go. My daughter’s teacher, Vatslya ma’am is just as good.
How is the parent-teacher interaction?
I have no complaints in this department. All the teachers are so humble. Even the most basic query is answered promptly. I have never them raise their voice at the kids or get irritated with the parents.
