It is undeniable that teachers play a significant role in the holistic development of young minds, who contribute to the growth of nation. They guide the students and teach them the core values like honesty, confidence, respect and so on. Undoubtedly, teachers perform their duties with dedication and sincerity. However, in this process, they sometimes neglect their mental as well as physical health.

Keeping this in mind, Apeejay School, Model Town, recently organised a two-day Yog Shivir event for the teachers to help them cope with their stress and anxiety. The session was organised as part of the value-added programme.

Mr Vivek Vansal, Program Coordinator of Art of Living Foundation, Jalandhar, conducted the enriching session for the teachers. The first day of the event was devoted to releasing stress through yogic asanas and kriyas while day two focused on training the mind through meditation techniques.

During the workshop, teachers practiced different breathing techniques to improve concentration and focus, timeless wisdom, innovative processes, techniques to overcome stress. The sessions helped the teachers to develop and strengthen their emotional, thinking and social skills.

On successful completing the sessions, the teachers shared their experiences:

Madhuri Lakhanpal from Sports Department said, “These sessions were very fruitful for me. It has brought a lot of positive change, I would call it a transformation. It gave a lot of inspiration, helped in managing stress and anxiety, and improved health.”

Meeta Oberoi, Educator from Department of English expressed, “The workshop on Yog Shivir was an enriching experience. It equipped all of us with the tools and techniques of elimination of stress and realisation of one’s worth thus leading to inner peace and happiness.”

For Ms Maninder Kaur, Social Science Educator and Coordinator, “Tranquillity of mind is a fantastic experience. In the hustle and bustle of life, one often tends to be restless. This programme provided tools for restoring calmness and eliminating ego. Physical exercise like yoga and breathing exercise like pranayama are always very helpful. There is no con to it. If practised rightly and regularly, it will help in putting the mind and body in sync. This was really a magical session for me.”

While expressing her views, Ms Jyoti Madan, Educator from Art and Craft Department said, “The major takeaway from this session was learning the art of meditation. The Sudarshan Kriya is an immense source of positivity. I believe, every human must learn this technique. Meditation is cleansing of the mind similar to the way we clean our homes or toilets. It is hard for me to further express my feelings after doing the shorter version of Kriya every day. All I can say is, I can’t stop smiling. I have started to understand the importance of being grateful to every single human and situation in my life.”

“My experience of meditation with the Art of Living Foundation was very euphoric. I was gradually loosening the restraints of self-centeredness as I was practicing yoga,” mentioned Sakshi Gupta, Department of Science.

Amita Bhanot, Teacher from Music Department said, “It was a wonderful experience and the instructors were great. My life has improved dramatically by practicing the breathing techniques and meditations. Sudarshan Kriya being the heart of it.”

Lastly, Maths Educator Ms Nidhi Mehta said, “In this modern techno-savvy fast paced world, where mind gets more exhausted than our body. The session of Art of Living came as a breath of fresh air where along with yoga, breathing techniques and mind relaxing ways were also discussed. It was truly an enriching and a stress buster session for me.”
