Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar, recently organised an insightful Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “The Hidden Cost of Convenience in Our Food Choices.” This initiative reflected ACFA’s commitment to fostering holistic education and raising awareness about pressing health concerns.

The session featured Ms. Shriya Maini, Assistant Professor in the PG Department of Commerce and Management and recipient of the National NSS Award (2021-22) from Honorable President Mrs. Draupadi Murmu, as the resource speaker.

In her address, Ms. Maini shared her personal journey of overcoming health challenges, which inspired her to research healthy eating practices. She emphasised, “There are scientific reasons behind the Indian traditions like fasting during Navratri as those align with seasonal transitions and improve digestion by incorporating alternative grains.” She further urged participants to avoid refined foods and instead embrace natural cooking mediums like desi ghee, mustard oil, and coconut oil for better health outcomes.

The key takeaway from the session was the importance of making informed food choices at home to lead healthier lives. Ms. Maini’s compelling insights highlighted how small changes in dietary habits could significantly impact overall well-being.

Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra underscored the relevance of the topic, pointing out that modern convenience-driven eating habits contribute to numerous lifestyle diseases. She advocated for a conscious approach to food consumption as a preventive measure against such ailments.

Dr. Sunit Kaur, Head of the Department of English, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to Ms. Maini and other speakers in the FDP series for their invaluable contributions. She also acknowledged the efforts of FDP Incharges Dr. Anjana Kumari, Dr. Payal Arora, and Ms. Rajni for organising these impactful sessions.

The FDP served as a vital platform for faculty members to gain actionable insights into health and wellness, furthering ACFA’s mission to promote holistic development among its community.
