‘This Apeejay student made a colour detector dress for the blind’

Devanshi Malhotra is a promising Bachelors of Design student. Passionately pursuing her aim to become a professional designer at Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA) in Jalandhar, she is already a step ahead, thanks to her recent socially relevant design.

In a quick chat with her mother Mrs Isha Malhotra, we learn about Devanshi’s latest fashion design that will help the blind recognize colours in a dress.

Yes. She is well adjusted at ACFA and has made many friends. She goes regularly to college, and is always excited to go there, as she gets to learn so many new things in the classroom and the campus.

They are all super friendly and are indeed guiding her well. She feels comfortable asking them doubts and is always encouraged to do the same.

She wants to make her mark in the fashion and textile industry.

Not yet but it is certainly on the cards!

Indeed! ACFA is training them well vis-à-vis the placement schedule. Be it interview facing skills, group discussion or anything else, workshops for the same are frequently held at the campus.

She likes her college a lot. Various in-house workshops keep happening as I mentioned before. The International Design week was also held recently. She participated in that and along with her team designed a product for the specially abled. It was a colour detector for the blind.

Blind people are unable to judge the colours around them. So, she made an attachment of a colour with an essence so that they could associate and identify a colour with a particular smell. For example, identifying strawberry scent with the colour red. She won the first prize for this and was encouraged heavily.

The college will also organise a ramp walk in the fourth year, where she will design the clothes and designs of the ramp walk.
