Apeejay School, Nerul, stands as a hallmark of excellence, offering both academic rigor and a nurturing environment. Mrs. Juhi Chandra, mother of alumnus Shubh Chandra and current student Shloak Chandra (Class 9), recounts her family’s enriching journey with the school. Having relocated to Mumbai from Pune when Shubh was in Class 2, Mrs. Chandra chose Apeejay for its strong reputation in academics. After meeting the then-principal, Mr. Rakesh Joshi, and experiencing the structured admission process, she felt confident that Apeejay would be the right fit for her sons.
In this interview, she reflects on how the school has shaped Shubh into a successful Data Engineer and continues to provide a holistic education for Shloak. Read edited excerpts:
What has been your experience with the school’s academic approach?
Academically, Apeejay excels. The teachers continuously upgrade their methods. They provide extra materials beyond the NCERT syllabus, preparing students not just for school exams but also for competitive platforms like the Olympiads. My younger son, Shloak, is thriving in this environment.
How has Apeejay contributed to your elder son Shubh’s development?
Shubh, now a Data Engineer at JLL Technologies, Bangalore, gained much more than academic knowledge from Apeejay. He was the Head Boy in 2019 and a recipient of the prestigious Dr. Stya Paul Award for Human Values. The school instilled in him values of resilience and adaptability, which have helped him in his professional life.
How does the school balance academics and extracurricular activities?
Apeejay encourages students to explore beyond academics. Shloak participates in debates, MUN, and various sports like football and basketball. These activities have helped him develop research skills, teamwork, and self-confidence, providing a holistic learning experience.
As a mental health professional, how do you view the school’s approach to student well-being?
Apeejay places great emphasis on mental health. There is a dedicated counselor, and the teachers are very approachable, addressing both academic and emotional concerns. The Adolescent Education Program (AEP) is also commendable for educating students about teenage issues in a healthy way.
