Afreen, a B.Ed student at Apeejay Stya University (ASU),Gurugram shares her enriching academic journey and classroom experiences in this interview. She reflects on ASU’s structured curriculum, interactive teaching practices, experiential learning approach, and supportive faculty that collectively prepare aspiring teachers for real-world classrooms and holistic professional growth. Read edited excerpts:
How would you describe the overall teaching–learning environment in the School of Education at Apeejay Stya University?
At Apeejay, the overall teaching learning environment is at par honestly while taking admission. I never thought that each semester would be this sorted with the well designed curriculum, regular classes and motivating the groups to take those classes. Thus, it leads to great enthusiasm in students to involve and participate well.
In what ways do your teachers make classroom teaching interactive, engaging, and connected to real school practices?
The practical classes conducted at university are more fun interactive, which leads to better communication and understanding. The classes are full of real-life examples and so are the virtual classes whenever conducted are engaging and interactive.
How effectively are innovative teaching methods such as experiential learning, ICT integration, group discussions, or projects used in your programme?
The whole theme of learning is based on real-life experience and implementation of real scenarios. The projects related to the current requisite of the market.

Do you feel that the curriculum prepares you well for the realities of school teaching and professional life? Please share an example.
Yes !100 percent the curriculum is well-designed and implemented impressively. Apart from just giving the whole weightage to the written exams, the major weightage is given to the practical part for better learning experience and thus well coordinated with the teaching and professional life.
In what ways do internal assessments, practicum, school internships, and reflective assignments help in your professional growth as a future teacher?
To the best of my knowledge I believe that the evaluation system is fair and unbiased . The above mentioned tasks were appropriate and correlated to professional growth and personally I like doing all of them.
How supportive and approachable are the faculty members when it comes to academic guidance, mentoring, and evaluation feedback?
All the faculty members are very approachable and helpful whenever required; right from the time of admission counselling to the semester end with the enriched guidance.
What role do seminars, workshops, FDPs, community engagement, and co-curricular activities play in enhancing your learning experience?
Seminars, workshops, FDPs give a wider aspect to the learning experience and more practical approach to fit in today’s world.
How does Apeejay Stya University contribute to your holistic development beyond academics—such as leadership, values, and social responsibility?
Subjects like NSS and Environment add on so much value to my personality by personally experiencing this at ground zero.
