Was PR always on the cards?
Yes. When I was pursuing graduation, I had PR as a subject. It fascinated me and I developed an interest in the same. I could see great potential in working in this sector. While PR is a part of the Mass Communication programme, I decided to do a post-graduation diploma from AIMC. The course included in-depth knowledge about PR which helped me to make a successful career in this sector.
How did AIMC hone your skills?
This institute has been the perfect fit for me. It is an institute that imparts practical knowledge. It’s due to this institute that I was able to learn all there is to know about PR. It has helped me learn how this industry works by providing an opportunity to work on real-time projects. This gave me confidence in dealing with the media and how PR works, how Press conferences are organised to name a few.
What does your typical day look like?
For now, it’s a simple nine-hour job that requires managing key clients and handling the entire PR spectrum for them. At present, I am working on some big-ticket clients like Hyundai India — this ranges from managing their events to launches and media coverage. Additionally, I oversee media and client servicing for Sunlight Global Solutions.
What is the secret behind building trust with your clients?
Effective communication and a deep understanding of clients are crucial. I grasp my clients’ past work and vision. It is also important to build networks with the media landscape and convey your client’s needs to craft compelling stories.
Any specific milestones?
I’m super grateful to be working with such prominent brands. My focus is on pursuing a career in auto-journalism in the near future.
Fond memories from your college days.
College was fun, especially when we used to go to places to gain industry knowledge. It wasn’t just theoretical knowledge; we gained practical insights about each and every aspect of PR. Spending time with friends was a cherry on the overall experience here.
Tips for aspiring PR students.
Make sure to be vocal, outspoken, and embody an extrovert personality. Becoming an exceptional PR involves cultivating in-depth knowledge about your clients, delving into their internal aspects that extend beyond mere stories.
