The IB Journey: The role of IB++ in fostering real-world success

Beyond academics, IB++ emphasises holistic development through sports, cultural activities, and student leadership to name a few

While carrying on with the entirely accepted International Baccalaureate curriculum, the IB++ programme looks to take a few steps forward with the Academic School of Innovation. With the addition of educational enrichment programmes, extra-curricular activities, and comprehensive support systems, IB++ prepares students much better for higher education and success in a professional career.

And what is the IB++ programme? It extends the core IB curriculum through unique modules on leadership development, critical thinking workshops, and advanced research methodologies.

This philosophy teaches that students should not only be receivers of knowledge but also learn the ability to use such knowledge in practical situations that occur in real life. In addition, the IB++ is granted more support on mentorship programmes and tutoring for better achievement by the student both academically and personally.

According to Mr Purshottam Dutt Vashist, Principal, Apeejay School International (ASI), Panchsheel Park, the IB++ programme at Apeejay School International (ASI) enriches the standard IB curriculum with advanced courses and opportunities tailored to individual student strengths.

“By integrating rigorous academic challenges with creative and innovative thinking, we ensure that students are well-prepared for higher education and future careers. Beyond academics, IB++ emphasises holistic development through pastoral care, sports, cultural activities, student leadership, community service, and global awareness projects, fostering essential life skills such as empathy, resilience, and ethical decision-making in the AI-empowered world. This approach equips our students to excel at the global level, making them well-rounded individuals ready for future challenges,” the Principal shared.

The innovation lies at the very core of IB++. ASI has adopted state-of-the-art technology to revamp the traditional mode of learning. Building robotics labs and digital literacy activities form a part of this, wherein students are involved in practical work from building robots to software solutions. Via this infusion of technology, they will gain skills in problem-solving and creativity — very important in facing technological advancement in higher education and beyond.

Influence of ATL Skills on ASI Graduates

The Approaches to Learning skills developed through the IB++ are those that have been very instrumental in the lives of the ASI alumni. They include communication, collaboration, organisation, and reflective thinking, all of which have been very instrumental in moulding careers and educational paths for many graduates.

The Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills at ASI are integral to nurturing confident, independent learners, Mr Vashist said.

“These skills — encompassing communication, self-management, research, and critical thinking — are embedded in our curriculum to empower students to take ownership of their learning journey. By fostering self-awareness and encouraging reflective practice, ATL skills help students set personal goals and tackle complex problems with resilience and adaptability.

“This focus on inquiry and collaboration ensures that ASI students develop the confidence and competence needed to navigate the challenges of higher education and beyond, emerging as capable, well-prepared individuals,” Mr Vashist said in conclusion.
