Embarking on a literary journey offers more than just an escape into imaginative realms; it is a profound method of personal enrichment. Through literature, individuals dive into complex narratives that foster empathy, challenge perceptions, and expand their understanding of diverse human experiences. Each book acts as a portal to distinct cultures and philosophical debates, enhancing intellectual growth and broadening one’s perspective. As readers engage with characters from various backgrounds and epochs, they develop a deeper comprehension of the world and themselves. Thus, beginning a literary journey is not just a pursuit of entertainment but a commitment to lifelong learning and self-discovery.

Meet one such writer – Chanchal, a second-year student of BCom (H) at Apeejay Institute of Management & Engineering Technical Campus (AIMETC). Sharing her literary journey, Chanchal says that the faculty at the institute has been a great motivation factor.

“They’ve motivated me numerous times regarding how to pen down unique articles. They told me that if I wrote them, they would find a platform for me where it would be published. Seeing my byline and the article that I had written pushed me to get started and here I am eight months and going strong.

Excerpts from the interview.

Do you feel that your writing has improved over time?

Yes definitely. I find a lot of changes in how I communicate and the kind of words that I use. My vocabulary has improved, and I can articulate better. I also see a vast improvement in my style of writing. Even while speaking I find that I have more words to express myself.

BCom (H) is not an easy course to pursue, but you also write. How do you balance both of them?

I write in my free time, especially over the weekends when I’m not busy with my studies. I don’t have a specific time for writing; I write whenever I feel inspired or make a conscious effort to write, particularly on Saturdays when I don’t participate in other activities.

What inspired you to write the article — From Screen Time to Green Time?

I used to spend a lot of time on my phone, which was affecting my eyesight. So I decided to reduce my screen time by engaging more with nature, like taking care of plants and flowers.

Why did you choose to do B.Com Honors?

I had taken up Commerce in class XI. Numbers always attracted me, especially Accountancy. Hence, I chose BCom with a plan to do an MBA in Accounting and Finance.

Do you think your BCom Honors course is influencing your writing?

Yes, especially in terms of time management, which is a crucial skill for balancing my studies and writing.

What inspires you to write?

Being in nature or simply having time to think. I use my free time to invest in something meaningful, which has always inspired me to write. I choose a topic that depends entirely on my personal life, like how I spend my time and the challenges I face. For example, I wrote about time management because of the difficulty of managing time between my studies and personal interests.

What advice would you give to other aspiring writers?

Give yourself time. When you do, you’ll have plenty of topics to write about. When you delve into your life you will find that several ideas will come to you and then you’ll be able to dive deeper into writing effectively.
