Meet Aarti Sharma, an alumna of Apeejay School of Management (ASM) who has proven her ability to ensure accuracy and efficiency in daily banking.
In a candid interview, she talks about her fond memories at ASM among other things.
Tell us about yourself.
I did my MBA in Finance from Apeejay School of Management back in 2017. From there on, I went to do a couple of courses at Indira Gandhi National Open University. Some of the skills that I learnt at ASM include: Microsoft Office, Balance Sheet Review, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Communication skills, Ratio, and Cash Flow Analysis.
Where are you working at present?
I am an Account Manager Service (Manager I) with ICICI Bank. I have been here for the last five years. My typical day involves handling a lot of documentation processes, talking to clients all the time to resolve their issues and queries, and also communicating with the backend team frequently.
How and why did you choose ASM for your studies?
After my CAT/MAT exam results were announced, I got calls from various colleges, including ASM. I took interviews for almost all of them and found ASM. I liked the campus, infrastructure, and the placement ratio it boasted. The most appealing aspect was the placement and therefore, I chose it for further studies.
Considering you did an MBA in Finance, how challenging was the course for you?
Since I come from a Commerce background; I took up Commerce in class XI and graduated in BCom (H) from Aditi Mahavidyalaya, University of Delhi, the course wasn’t particularly tough for me. However, it provided me with a different kind of practical exposure compared to the bookish knowledge I acquired during my graduation.
How did ASM help you gain practical exposure?
Although it’s been five years and my memory is a bit hazy, I remember working on practical projects like a ratio analysis for Nestle and conducting surveys related to sales and turnover for various companies in terms of marketing. These projects helped me hone my skills.
Fond memories from your time at ASM.
Yes, I fondly recall the Synergy Fest, which is organised every year, along with fresher events and various lectures by professors. They made the lectures interesting and engaging by incorporating their industry experience. It was great to get the industry perspective from them.
Would you recommend ASM to other students?
Yes, especially in terms of placement. Although finding companies for finance students was challenging not just in ASM but also for my colleagues from different colleges in Delhi, ASM is still a good option for attending company interviews and securing placements. I too got my placement from ASM.
How did the faculty at ASM help you in getting your first job?
The faculty organised lectures, sometimes weekly, where they would guide us on how interviews are conducted, how to present ourselves, answer questions smartly, and what to include in our CVs. They helped us in getting our CVs and resumes ready for interviews. They also told us what to include and what not to write in our CVs. All these tips helped me in securing a job.
