Her journey has been an interesting one. From Bihar to Rajasthan to Gujarat to Delhi, this alumna of the Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication (AIMC). To realise her dream, after completing her Bachelor’s in Mass Communication, she decided to move to Delhi. Meet Yukta Sharma, who will soon be starting her professional journey with Purple Focus.

“While I am super excited to begin the next phase of my life, there was a time when my parents were worried when I told them that I wanted to move to Delhi. However, all fears were laid to rest when I met the faculty at AIMC. They were so good and explained everything wonderfully. The push that I got here has helped me to get a leg up in the world of advertising,” Yukta shared.

In an impromptu conversation, she talked about the amazing days at this institute among other things.

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

My name is Yukta, and I am from Udaipur. I moved to Delhi for post-graduation last year, having completed my bachelor’s in Ahmedabad. Initially, my parents were concerned about the transition, but the supportive faculty at the institute made it a smooth experience. I pursued a diploma in Advertising and Marketing Communication at this institute.

How were your days at the institute?

I have recently graduated from AIMC and my days here were enriching. The faculty members were very supportive and played a significant role in my learning experience.

Why did you choose this particular field?

I joined the journalism programme because I wanted to pursue a career as a journalist and my parents were on board with the plan. However, my interest in advertising grew during my third year of journalism. Wherever you look, you are surrounded by campaigns; there are promotions about everything and I realised the pervasiveness and creative potential of advertising. This led me to pursue further studies in this field. To follow my dream I decided to a specific course that was offered at AIMC and

What did you learn in your programme that helped you in your career?

Academically, I learnt several things at the institute. The programme was technically rich and included practical exercises in teamwork and communication, which were invaluable. Before I came to Delhi, I was an introvert. However, the institute and the faculty boosted my confidence and helped me become more extroverted.

You were recently placed. Can you describe the process of how you got your job?

After initially getting placed at Communique, I faced a medical emergency and had to leave. However, the faculty at the institute were incredibly supportive. They helped calm me during a stressful period and assisted in arranging interviews for other positions. They stayed in touch with me during my emergency, sent out my resume, and lined up interviews, which was tremendously helpful in securing my position at Purple Focus.

How did the faculty prepare you to face the challenges ahead?

As a girl, one of the biggest challenges facing you is the trials and tribulations you face in a metro like Delhi. I can proudly say that I have managed to conduct myself with dignity so far and I have to thank the institute for this. The environment here is amazing. I have lived on my own for the longest time, but never have I seen such a cooperative faculty.

How has the journey been so far?

There have been ups and downs. But I can with surety say that I have evolved as a person. I have learnt to be patient and how the advertising world works.

How and why did you choose AIMC?

When I was looking for colleges from where I could pursue advertising, I looked at IIM-C and AIMC. I had spoken to the faculty at both places and after a detailed conversation, I found that the programme that I wanted was offered only at AIMC.

What are your aspirations?

I hope to learn as much as I can when I begin working and move up the ladder. I also want to work with big Ad names in the industry. And somewhere down the line, if I can have my start-up!
