The prestigious Dr Stya Paul Award for Human Values honours students who embody the core values of empathy, integrity, and community service. This unique award celebrates students from Apeejay schools who excel not only academically but also in their commitment to positive social impact. Nanditha, a Class 10 student from Apeejay School, Kharghar in Navi Mumbai, recently received this award, recognising her commitment to human values and service. In this interview, Nanditha shares her thoughts on the significance of the award, the principles that guide her, and the experiences that have shaped her.
What does receiving the Dr Stya Paul Award for Human Values mean to you?

It’s truly an honour! This award is special because it doesn’t just focus on grades or achievements; it’s about human values and how we contribute to society. I believe it recognises qualities like kindness and empathy, which are just as important as academics. Dr. Stya Paul, our founder, was an inspiring figure who worked hard despite facing challenges, and it feels amazing to receive an award in his honour.
What human values do you think are essential for a positive impact on society?
Honesty is definitely the foundation. Without honesty, it’s hard to build real relationships or trust. Another key value is service. Last year, as the Interact Club president, I worked with others to help in small ways, like organising donations for an orphanage. We might not change the whole world, but even bringing a smile to someone’s face makes a difference. Respect is also vital—understanding others’ perspectives and treating them with respect helps us build a more compassionate community.
How have you demonstrated these values in your own life?
I focus on empathy and compassion daily. I try to see situations from others’ perspectives, which helps me connect with them on a deeper level. For example, in our Interact Club, we organised charity activities, like visiting the Girija Ashram orphanage. These small acts of service made me realise how even a little help can mean so much to someone else.
What qualities do you believe make you a strong advocate for human values?
I’m very detail-oriented and strive for perfection, which helps me ensure that I put my best effort into everything, even the smallest tasks. I also try to be compassionate and genuinely care about people. I feel grateful for this ability to understand others’ perspectives and emotions—it helps me connect with people in a meaningful way.
