Imbibing human values is crucial for students for several reasons, as it contributes to their holistic development and prepares them for a well-rounded and responsible life. Human values provide a strong ethical foundation. They guide individuals in making moral and principled decisions, helping them distinguish between right and wrong. This ethical compass is essential in personal and professional life.

Therefore, educational institutes like Apeejay are committed to the holistic development of students and ensure that they become ethical human beings with the highest standards of honesty, humility, and integrity. The students who personify and exhibit these values in their daily lives are awarded the prestigious and coveted Dr Stya Paul Award for Human Values.
Meet Abhinav Sangwan, who recently passed class XII from Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park, and was conferred with this prestigious award last year. In a candid interview, he talks about his plans.
What was your reaction to receiving this award?
I was thrilled beyond words when I came to know that I was getting this prestigious award. I was not accepting it; other students were much better than me. Getting this award put me on top of the world; it is an honour.
You are in class XII. What are your plans?
I have taken up Commerce. I want to become a trader. There is something very fascinating about the numbers. Also, I am not the kind of person who can work from 9 am to 5 pm. I can’t work in an environment where I have to report to a person. Being a stock trader will give me independence. More so, since I have anger issues.
What do you do to deal with this?
First, I had to recognise that I have anger issues. Once I was able to come to terms with this, I started meditating. I sit in my room, draw the curtains, and meditate daily. This calms me down.

What does being human mean to you?
I believe everyone must be polite in his/her dealings with people. This is a trait that sets you apart from others. This value is extremely important to me since, as I mentioned earlier, I have anger issues. I understand how important it is to speak with people politely and nicely.
What role have your parents and teachers played?
My parents have been with me through thick and thin. They have been extremely supportive. And the same goes for the teachers. It will be difficult to name a few since there have been several teachers who have guided and motivated me.
Had you heard about these awards earlier?
Yes, my sister had received this award a couple of years back. So, when my name came, I was well aware of what to expect.
What values of Dr Stya Paul would you like to imbibe?
Our Founder-Chairman was a great visionary. Despite being a person with disabilities, he never let anything stand in his way. He never let the success get to him. He remained humble and polite all through. This is what I would like to inculcate in my life as well.
