Winning the Dr Stya Paul Award for Human Values is a proud moment for any Apeejay student. For Class 7 student Haritika Tripathi from Apeejay School, Kharghar, this honour recognises her compassion, empathy, and strong moral compass. Known for her kind heart and disciplined nature, Haritika believes that even the smallest act of kindness can leave a lifelong impact. In this conversation, she reflects on what inspired her actions, her love for her school, and why values matter most in today’s world.

Read edited excerpts:

What inspired the act of kindness that earned you this honour?
This happened when I was in Class 5. A new student had joined our class, and she looked nervous and lonely on her first day. I felt bad for her and decided to help. I helped her catch up with the classwork and stayed with her during breaks until she felt comfortable. Today, we are in Class 7 and still best friends! That small gesture taught me that kindness creates bonds that can last a lifetime.

Your teachers often appreciate your discipline. Why do you think following rules is important?
I believe rules shape our personality. They teach us how to behave, respect others, and represent ourselves well. Discipline helps us grow and achieve balance in life. That’s why I have always valued it, and my teachers continue to appreciate that about me.

What do you love most about Apeejay School, Kharghar?
It’s difficult to choose one thing because I enjoy everything about my school! But if I had to pick, I’d say the teachers. They’re our guiding light. I admire how they adapt their teaching methods to suit every student’s understanding and ensure that no one feels left behind.

Why do you think human values are important in today’s world?
Values guide us toward becoming better people. They shape our goals, beliefs, and mindset. No matter what our background is, a person with good values will always be respected. In today’s fast-changing world, values keep us grounded and humane.

What message would you like to share with others about kindness and equality?
Discrimination—whether by gender, caste, colour, or wealth—has no place in humanity. What truly matters is a person’s nature. We should help others understand that everyone has the same dreams and feelings. Humanity should come naturally to all of us. After all, the word itself begins with human!
