The Art of Man-Making: ‘Help others selflessly’

It is not just important to know about human values rather it is more than important to implement and abide by those. Values like honesty, compassion, and empathy contribute to the development of one’s social skills. Such values significantly contribute to the development of one’s character in the simplest forms.  

Several schools have made it mandatory for students to attend classes on moral education classes. Institutes like Apeejay Education go a step ahead and each year they give Dr Stya Paul Awards for Human Values who exhibit honesty and integrity. Meet one such recipient of the award who says, it is essential to learn about human values and then abide by the same.

In a candid interview, Amanjyot Kaur Anand, a student of class X at Apeejay School, Nerul talks about how human values are essential in transforming one’s behaviour.

Tell us about yourself.

I love to dance and paint. I find immense joy in expressing myself through these art forms. Moreover, my connection with nature is a profound source of tranquility. I love to be surrounded by tall trees and the peace the green foliage brings. Nature is so beautiful, we just forget to admire its beauty.

How was your reaction when you were conferred with this coveted award?

This was the first time that I got nominated for Dr Stya Paul Awards for Human Values. I was surprised to know that I was able to get it on the first attempt. It is tough to explain how I felt when I received the award. I was on cloud nine.

What makes these awards so special?

The award remains close to the heart of Apeejay School as it has an innate tendency to make a positive yet invaluable contribution. It emphasizes and encourages students who have a passion for assisting others.

What is the most essential human value that one must possess?

Discipline. One needs to remain organised and disciplined in their life. Moreover, whatever action you may take to help others, make sure not to deviate from the original goal.

Has this award affected your personal growth?

I have followed good deeds all my life. I believe I have received a fruitful reward for the same. After receiving this award, I have become more motivated to do more good deeds; every day if possible.

How have the teachers helped you grasp values?

I had the privilege of serving as the president of my school since class IX. Throughout this experience, my teachers and mentors have been quintessential in imparting moral and human values that have guided my leadership journey. Their guidance has not only shaped my role as a school president but has also instilled in me a deeper understanding of the values that one must possess.

How do you plan to perform a lead of human values outside your classroom?

My mentors and family are always there to help me. Therefore, I go a step ahead and ensure that I help others. Recently, we celebrated my grandmother’s birthday, we went to an orphanage and donated some clothes as well as pencil boxes to the students there.

Advice for your peers, about the significance of human values.

Human values are not gifted to us when we are born. We learn these from our life experiences. So, whatever you possess or do, do without thinking of its any benefit in return. Do it selflessly.

What would you like to imbibe from D Stya Paul’s life?

His selfless assistance and dedication were evident in his actions. His innate establishment of numerous institutes was not driven by personal gain; rather, his sincere desire to empower people with education and essential knowledge. I aspire to embody his quality of selfless assistance and contribute towards positive change.
