Sports play a crucial role in the holistic development of students at school by contributing to their physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being. “Playing sports helps students develop better concentration, focus, and mental discipline, which are transferable to academic pursuits,” shares Manpreet Singh, who won the Bronze medal at the Paris Olympics 2024. His daughter, Jasmine, studies in pre-nursery at Apeejay Rhythms Kinderworld, Jalandhar.
Read on to know how the Indian hockey champion is all praises for the school’s approach towards it students.
Why did you choose Apeejay for admission?
Since the first day I stepped foot at Apeejay to attend a function as Chief Guest, there has been no doubt in my mind about where my kid will be studying. Apeejay focuses on providing a well-rounded education that includes extracurricular activities and character development, this is how Apeejayites are different and stands apart from others.
How are the teachers here?
They not only teach what is in the book but also help the kids to develop important skills that are most required in this modern world which makes them more confident in doing things to their abilities. One method or technique that they use here is the field trip activities arranged for the children be it weekly or monthly which I love about as children learn through exposure.
Has your daughter settled well at school?
It didn’t take long for Jasmine to settle down here. It feels like she has known everyone here long enough. She is so comfortable here and looks forward to going to school even on the weekends! All this is because of the supportive environment provided since her first day with Apeejay.
Would you continue with Apeejay in future?
Again with no doubt a big yes! Unless we are shifting to some other place due to the nature of my profession.

Do you have a dream for your daughter professionally?
Jasmine is a curious and outgoing child who loves to explore and learn new things even on her own wherever she’s at. For me and my wife, we let her decide what she wants to be and our role is to be there, support her and ensure that she achieves her dreams. However, I would want her to play any sports such as shooting or tennis.
How are the school infrastructure and facilities?
Apeejay is an ideal platform where children can fold their physical, mental and emotional growth because of the excellent facilities provided be it in the classroom, sporting or even extra co-curricular activities.
Share your favourite Olympic memories.
There is no doubt it was when our team won the Bronze medal (Hockey) at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 after 41 years! Back then the entire nation’s eyes were on us and it was great that we could bring home the Bronze. The second was when the team once again won the Bronze medal at Paris 2024! Back-to-back win in a major tournament gives you a chill.
How important is sports for an individual’s growth?
As a sportsperson, I must say it is important because playing sports helps you to reduce stress. and enhances the mood. Be it study or work, sports is a fun and engaging way to stay active. Sports teach you how to work as a team, trust and rely on each other’s strengths, leadership and personality development, socialise skills and to communicate effectively.
Where do you feel India is lacking and how should we improve that?
The government should impose compulsory sports activities (with more choices of sports) at schools and colleges so that the children will have more options and come forward with their talents.
