For Chandrika Goel (Batch of 2008), walking into Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park today is more than a routine parent visit, it is a journey back in time. Now a proud mother to Kabir Sharma of Class 1, Chandrika’s story is a heartwarming addition to our TalesOfTradition series, celebrating families whose legacy continues within the same school corridors.

Read edited excerpts:

As an alumna, what experiences from your school days do you hope Kabir will also cherish?
When I was a student, school life was not just about textbooks. I vividly remember participating in electronics and home science activities, experiences that were rare in many schools back then. These activities complemented academics and made learning holistic. I truly hope Kabir, too, benefits from such co-curricular exposure that supports classroom learning and builds practical understanding.

With your academic background in Economics and teaching experience, what reassures you about Kabir’s growth here?
Having completed my Master’s in Economics and taught as an ad hoc Assistant Professor at Gargi College, I value structured learning. What reassures me is the individual attention Kabir receives. His teachers provide detailed feedback and ensure he isn’t overlooked in class. The one-on-one interactions help me track his progress clearly, which reflects a nurturing academic environment.

How does it feel to return to the school, this time as a parent?
As a parent, safety and comfort matter deeply. I have noticed remarkable improvements in infrastructure, air-conditioned classrooms, cleaner facilities, and significantly healthier canteen food compared to my time. Even transportation feels secure and well-managed. The bus staff, especially Kabir’s didi, are caring and responsible. These changes make me confident about his daily routine.

Has there been a moment that truly connected your past and Kabir’s present?
Absolutely. Last year in KG, Kabir’s class teacher was the same teacher who had taught me in nursery. That entire year felt special. Seeing someone who once shaped my early years now guiding my son was incredibly emotional and unforgettable.

Do you see changes in the school’s academic approach?
From what I observe, the approach today feels more logical and concept-based. Earlier, rote learning was more common. Now, there is greater emphasis on understanding and reasoning, which I believe is a positive shift.
