TalesOfTradition: ‘Watching my children grow here feels like coming home’

She is a homemaker, part-time freelancer and a mother of three children. Two of her children (Gurmehar Kaur and Darshin Kaur) study at Apeejay School, Sector 15, Faridabad, while the youngest is still an infant. Meet Harmeet Kaur, who graduated in 2006 from the Commerce stream. In a candid interview, she talks about how the values that she grew up with at the school are being passed on to her kids today, among other things.

What made you choose Apeejay School, Faridabad, for your children?

My decision was deeply influenced by my own experience as a student. The environment of the school, the encouragement from teachers, and the emphasis on both curricular and extracurricular activities left a lasting impact on me. The overall aura of the school played a major role in shaping my personality, and I wanted my children to grow up in the same nurturing space.

Do you see the same values being passed on to your children today?

The school taught me to believe in myself and never give up, and I see these values being instilled in my children as well. Both my children actively participate in academic and extracurricular activities. My elder daughter is in Class IX, and the support she receives from her teachers has been remarkable in shaping her overall growth.

When you visit the school now as a parent, what feels familiar and what has changed?

The school premises bring back very fond memories of my own school days. At the same time, I can clearly see how much the school has evolved. The classrooms are more modern, the teaching methods have changed for the better, and technology has been integrated thoughtfully. Teachers are adapting with time, encouraging students to explore computers, digital learning, and even concepts like AI.

What is one value from your school life that has stayed with you?

The biggest gift the school gave me is confidence. I was encouraged to explore my potential, and that confidence continues to guide me even today. I work as a part-time language translator. I translate documents in Spanish and Russian.

What would you like to say to parents considering this school for their child?

The school focuses on shaping children into good human beings while providing modern education. It encourages students to aim higher, recognise opportunities, and grow into responsible citizens and achievers.

Has being an alumna influenced your connection with your children’s school life?

Being an alumna helps me relate closely to the school’s teaching style. Many teachers are familiar with my children, and I can clearly see how teachers contribute meaningfully to my children’s journey and personal development.
