He has served in the Indian Army for 24 years as an Infantry Officer. He was born and brought up in Faridabad and completed his schooling at Apeejay School, Sector 15, Faridabad. After school, he cleared the NDA and joined the Army, where most of his learning thereafter came through training and on-the-ground experience. Meet Colonel Kunal Bhuria, who joined the school in nursery and passed out in 1995.
In an impromptu interview, he talks about the legacy that his family carries as his children, Kiaan and Kimora, are also studying here.
Is there a value or lesson from school that has stayed with you through your life and career?
I have always believed that whatever I am today is because of the education I received. School was the last phase of formal education for me, and it laid the foundation for everything that followed. The clarity of thought, grounding in basics, and sense of responsibility I developed there have guided me throughout my career.

As an alumnus and now a parent, what feels familiar when you visit the school?
A lot feels familiar. The large grounds, the infrastructure, and the auditorium bring back memories. I once performed on that very stage, and now I visit the same spaces to watch my children participate. That continuity is very special.
Apeejay’s motto is Soaring High Is My Nature. How do you connect with it today?
I connect with it completely. The confidence and belief that I could aim higher came from my schooling. The environment encouraged discipline, ambition, and resilience, all of which have played a role in my journey.
What made you choose Apeejay School, Faridabad, for your children?
I chose the school because of its strong focus on conceptual clarity, its traditional approach to teaching, and the discipline it instils. These elements are essential for a child’s overall development.
What similarities do you notice between your and your children’s experiences today?
The curriculum structure and teaching approach are largely the same, and that consistency works well. The education system beyond school has not changed drastically, so the foundation provided remains relevant.
How does it feel to see your children study at the same school?
It is deeply emotional. My children often ask about my school days and the House I belonged to, and they get excited when they share similar experiences. It brings us closer as a family.
What do you hope your children will take forward after Class XII?
I hope they carry strong values, respect for their teachers, and a sense of discipline as they move ahead in life. Beyond academics, I want them to emerge as grounded individuals who understand responsibility, integrity, and the importance of contributing positively to society.
