In rural India, a significant skill gap exists among the youth, with 80 per cent yet to pursue vocational or skill training. Computer courses emerge as the top choice for those who have undergone training. Gender disparities are noticeable, with 39 per cent of young women opting for vocational training compared to 33 per cent men. Regional variations are evident, with 96 per cent of youth in Lunglei, Mizoram lacking vocational training, while 44 per cent and 43 per cent in Solapur and Satara (Maharashtra) have pursued such courses, according to The Voices Survey.

A joint survey by the Life Skills Collaborative, in collaboration with Breakthrough, Quest Alliance, and Pratham Education Foundation, aimed to understand the awareness and perceptions of life skills among youth, parents, school teachers/ITI trainers, and trainers in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.

The survey covered 11 districts in states like Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Haryana, and Mizoram, providing insights into the challenges and opportunities faced by youth in terms of life skills education.
