Surge in hospitality jobs mirrors India’s travel and tourism rebound

According to the employment platform Indeed, the travel and tourism sector in India has experienced a remarkable resurgence following the pandemic. Job listings for roles in the hospitality sector have seen a substantial surge of 66 per cent from June 2022 to 2023. This recovery stands in stark contrast to the preceding trend, which witnessed a significant 60 per cent drop in job opportunities during 2019-2020, followed by a seven per cent decline in the subsequent year.
Demonstrating impressive resilience and adaptability, the sector has wholeheartedly embraced evolving customer preferences. The emergence of tailored experiences like “staycations,” “workcations,” and solo getaways has swiftly become the new norm, delivering customers personalised and secure travel choices. This transformation has been greatly facilitated by technology, seamlessly weaving digital enhancements into every facet of the hospitality journey.
The resurgence not only paints a promising outlook for the industry but also ignites optimism among job seekers, evident in a three per cent uptick in their interest to venture into the hospitality sector. This growing attraction can be attributed to an array of benefits and incentives enticing professionals to this field. As a new era of innovation and customer-centric offerings unfolds, the Indian travel and tourism industry stands on the brink of an exciting and luminous chapter.
In accordance with Indeed’s data, the top three cities driving demand for coveted travel sector jobs are Delhi (33 per cent), Mumbai (six per cent), and Bengaluru (five per cent). Tier-II cities like Mohali and Coimbatore have also seen an upswing in job demand, each at four per cent.
Leading the pack with a 60 per cent demand increase over the past year, travel agent roles dominate the job landscape. Furthermore, job listings within the broader hospitality sector have notably surged in Delhi (20 per cent), Mumbai (seven per cent), and Bengaluru (six per cent). Correspondingly, the interest of job seekers in these cities has steadily risen, with Delhi (19 per cent ), Mumbai (nine per cent), and Bangalore (5.29 per cent) showcasing noteworthy boost in individuals exploring opportunities within the industry.
