The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur released the JEE Advanced 2025 results on June 2. The entrance examination was conducted on May 18, 2025, in computer-based test (CBT) mode and comprised two papers — Paper 1 and Paper 2. Both papers featured a mix of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and Multiple Select Questions (MSQs), designed to test candidates’ understanding and application of core science and mathematics concepts.

A total of 1,80,422 candidates appeared for both Paper 1 and Paper 2 JEE Advanced 2025. Out of these, 54,378 candidates have qualified for the next stage of the admissions process.

Meet one such aspirant — Shaurya Khantwal from Apeejay School, Saket, who qualified. In a candid interview, he talks about his preparation for JEE Advanced 2025, among other things.

What was your reaction?

To be honest, I have mixed feelings. When I started preparing, I had hopes of getting a higher rank. But given how the past one to two months went, I’m quite happy. I didn’t expect even this much, so I’m content.

What are your plans now? Have you already secured admission?

The counselling process has just started, so nothing is confirmed yet. But yes, I’m looking at options. If I get a seat in a good branch like Computer Science or Electronics at DTU, NSUT, or IIIT Delhi, I’ll go for it.

When did you start preparing for the JEE? And what was your study strategy?

I began my preparation in Class 11. Honestly, I didn’t follow any particular strategy. I just used to go through chats, revise regularly, and clear up all my backlogs well before the JEE Main exams.

Considering the boards, JEE Mains (both sessions), and then Advanced — how challenging was it?

It was tough. In earlier years, I usually had just one big exam to prepare for. But this time, there were three to four major exams back to back. So it was the first time I studied continuously for such a long period. Now, I feel that all my hard work has paid off.

What kind of support did you get from your teachers during these two years?

My school teachers helped me a lot, especially in Physics, Chemistry, and Math. They were very supportive and made sure I understood every chapter thoroughly. I struggled more with Chemistry. But somehow, I ended up scoring better in Chemistry.

What helped you improve in Chemistry?

I focused on revising a lot and tried to go deep into every topic. Initially, I used to study only at the surface level, but I realised that in JEE Advanced, even scoring 99 out of 360 could give you a decent rank. So, it’s more important to do fewer chapters properly than to try and cover everything superficially.

What advice would you give to students preparing for JEE Advanced next year?

I’d say study both hard and smart. Understand what you’re learning and how it’s going to help you. Don’t just rote-learn — go for conceptual clarity.
