World Tourism Day is celebrated annually to highlight the social, economic, and cultural significance of tourism globally. It promotes awareness of the role tourism plays in fostering understanding among nations and driving sustainable development. Tourism creates jobs, supports local economies, and helps preserve cultural and natural heritage, making it an essential part of the global economy. Celebrating this day fosters a deeper appreciation of the diverse cultures and landscapes around the world and encourages responsible travel practices.

Marking the occasion, Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar celebrated World Tourism Day with an exciting and creative two-day event, Khoj 2024 – Unleash Your Creativity, organised by the Department of Applied Art. The event featured an array of competitions that allowed students to express their talents and explore various creative avenues while also celebrating the spirit of travel and exploration.
The activities included Tape a Tale, Poster Making, Cartooning & Illustration, Instagram Reel Making, Photography, and a thrilling Treasure Hunt. These competitions were designed not only to enhance students’ creativity but also to inspire them to think about how travel and tourism contribute to personal growth and development.

The event was graced by Chief Guest Mr. Parth Munish Kakkar, an alumnus of Apeejay College and a celebrated filmmaker and photographer. He shared, “Passion plays a crucial role in professional success,” while encouraging students to pursue their creative interests with dedication. His journey from a student to a renowned figure in media inspired participants to look at tourism and creativity as interconnected fields with vast potential.
Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra expressed her joy in witnessing the enthusiasm and creativity of the participants. She said, “Travel contributes to shaping
well-rounded personalities by exposing individuals to new cultures, ideas, and experiences.” Dr. Dhingra believes that such events are instrumental in preparing students to become responsible global citizens who appreciate diversity and cultural exchange.

The competitions saw energetic participation, with students showcasing their talents in various fields. Winners were awarded for their exceptional creativity and skill across categories like Instagram Reel Making, Photography, Cartooning & Illustration, Poster Making, Treasure Hunt, and Tape a Tale. Notable winners included Kanchan, Priyanshu Virmani, Dikha Dhiman, and Aashi, among others.
Winner Priayanshu expressed, “We had a lot of thrilling experiences. The competitions helped us showcase our talent. I am happy to be a winner.”
The event’s success was attributed to the tireless efforts of the judges and organisers, who ensured that Khoj 2024 was not only a celebration of tourism but also a platform for students to hone their skills and explore their potential. The event fostered a sense of community, creativity, and appreciation for the role of tourism in broadening horizons and enriching lives.
