Apeejay School, Noida, resonated with the spirit of environmental consciousness as students and teachers came together to celebrate Earth Day with a special morning assembly recently. Organised by the Gandhi House, the assembly was themed Our Power, Our Planet, reflecting the collective responsibility we share in protecting our Earth.
The celebration began on a thoughtful note with the ‘thought of the day’, followed by a crisp round-up of national and international news updates. The tone was soon elevated with a soul-stirring Hindi poem, vividly describing the beauty of Mother Nature and the heart-breaking damage inflicted upon her due to human apathy. The poem struck an emotional chord, reminding everyone of the urgency to act.
Continuing the message of awareness, a self-composed English poem was recited by a student, which echoed the voice of a conscious generation rising to reclaim their future. The poetic verses served as a clarion call for students to embrace eco-conscious living and make sustainable choices.
A thought-provoking short documentary was also presented, capturing the ironic tragedy of modern civilization —where the very intellect of Homo sapiens, designed to build and innovate, has become the force behind Earth’s depletion through unchecked greed, exploitation, and ignorance. The documentary offered a mirror to society, urging introspection and a change of course.
One of the highlights of the assembly was a powerful skit titled The Annual Sync: Nature Meets the Tech Titans. The dramatisation creatively depicted a fictional meeting between nature and modern technology, exposing the harmful consequences of environmental neglect in a tech-driven age. The performance, marked by sharp dialogues and compelling acting, was both entertaining and enlightening.
To reinforce learning engagingly, a fun and informative quiz on sustainability and environmental facts was conducted, encouraging active student participation and knowledge sharing. Adding a musical charm to the assembly, a heartfelt rendition of Take Me Home, Country Roads uplifted the mood, symbolising a yearning to return to nature and simplicity.
The morning ended on a resolute and inspiring note with the Earth Day pledge. With hands on their hearts, students vowed to adopt environment-friendly habits and become responsible stewards of the planet.
This Earth Day celebration wasn’t just an event — it was a powerful reminder that the planet’s future lies in mindful choices and collective action.
