Apeejay Stya University successfully hosted a dynamic and enriching three-day Workshop on Contemporary Dance and Nukkad Natak, under the banner of Apeejay HEL – Inter-Institutional Cultural Collaboration. Organised in association with Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar, the initiative brought together students from diverse academic backgrounds to learn, create, and experience performing arts in an immersive environment.
The workshop was thoughtfully designed to offer a hands-on learning experience guided by industry professionals. Students gained the invaluable opportunity to train under experts from specialised artistic domains — Mr. Hitin Khurana, who facilitated the Contemporary Dance sessions, and Mr. Amandeep Rana and Mr. Zorawar Singh, who led the Nukkad Natak (street play) module.
Over the course of three days, participants engaged in a structured learning journey that combined technique, expression, and performance confidence. The Contemporary Dance component focused on body coordination, movement vocabulary, posture alignment, and emotional expression through motion. Students were encouraged to break inhibitions and express themselves freely, exploring how a narrative can be conveyed without spoken words.
Simultaneously, the Nukkad Natak sessions highlighted the power of performance as a tool for social awareness and collective messaging. Students were introduced to elements such as voice modulation, gestures, satire, audience engagement, character building, and improvisation — key features that make street theatre an impactful medium. Trainers emphasized how the art form goes beyond entertainment and becomes a catalyst for social dialogue and public consciousness.
Throughout the workshop, the atmosphere was vibrant, collaborative, and filled with creative energy. Students worked in teams, exchanged ideas, practiced routines, and discovered new artistic possibilities. The interaction between institutions strengthened cultural bonds and encouraged exposure beyond classroom learning.
The three-day experience culminated in a grand valedictory showcase, where participants presented their final performances before faculty and fellow students. The dance performance reflected fluid movement, discipline, and emotional depth, while the Nukkad Natak presentation delivered a compelling social message with confidence and theatrical flair. The showcase stood as a proud testimony to the growth, effort, and engagement of all participants.
The workshop not only enhanced technical skills but also instilled confidence, teamwork, discipline, and creativity among the students. Many participants expressed that the experience helped them overcome stage fear, discover new talents, and appreciate performing arts on a deeper level.
This initiative truly embodied the vision of Inter-Apeejay cultural collaboration, establishing a platform for shared learning, artistic exchange, and holistic development. By bridging institutions through art, the workshop reaffirmed Apeejay Stya University’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals and fostering a strong cultural ecosystem.
