On the occasion of National Voters’ Day, Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar organised an awareness programme to sensitise students to the significance of voting and active civic participation. The initiative was conducted jointly by the Election Commission of India and the District Administration, with the objective of fostering informed, responsible and engaged citizens among the youth.
The programme highlighted the role of young voters in strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring that governance remains transparent and accountable. Students were encouraged to recognise voting as a powerful democratic right that enables citizens to participate directly in the nation-building process.
Education Beyond the Classroom
Addressing the students, Dr Neerja Dhingra, Principal of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, emphasised that education extends beyond academic achievement. While students are consistently encouraged to excel in academics, cultural pursuits and sports, equal importance is placed on nurturing social awareness and ethical responsibility.
She urged students to apply for their voter ID cards and to understand the true value of their vote, highlighting that even a single vote can play a decisive role in influencing electoral outcomes and driving positive societal change.
Interactive Activities to Reinforce Democratic Values
As part of the awareness drive, students actively participated in various competitions organised by the Election Commission of India and the District Administration. These activities served as effective learning tools, helping students deepen their understanding of the electoral process, democratic values and constitutional rights.
On the occasion, students also took a pledge to exercise their right to vote honestly and to fulfil their civic duties with integrity, reinforcing the importance of ethical participation in democracy.
Recognising Collaborative Efforts
Appreciating the successful organisation of the programme, Dr Neerja Dhingra lauded the dedicated efforts of Dr Monika Anand, Dr Payal Arora and Dr Simkhi Dev in making the event meaningful and impactful. The initiative reaffirmed the college’s commitment to shaping socially aware individuals who are prepared to participate responsibly in democratic life.
