Setting a living example of ‘environmental stewardship and wellness’, Apeejay School, Model Town, came alive with students of every grade enthusiastically mounting their bicycles to take part in ‘Work by Bike’ day. Moved by the quest to raise awareness on key issues in the field of sustainable transport and active lifestyles, this response is overwhelming. This thus proved how much students care about health and the planet alike.

The event reminded people to use alternate modes of eco-friendly transport, with carbon emission being the chief culprit for air pollution. Pedalling on bikes rather than motorised vehicles, the students did this intending to reduce their reliance on sources of fossil fuel and underline the important role that could be played by sustainable practices in fighting climate change.

Health Benefits of Biking

Several health benefits one can get from everyday cycling were brought home beyond the environment on ‘Work by Bike’ day. The addition of just a bit of cycling to one’s day brings gains in cardiovascular fitness, stronger muscles, and increased mental health to students. Indeed, feeling way awake and energised throughout the school day was reported by people after such an active morning commute.

Student Voices and Future Aspirations

All of the children were keyed up with excitement. Many shared a new realization about being powerful in positively impacting environmental health. “Riding to school wasn’t just fun; it made me feel like I was doing my bit for the planet,” expressed one student, putting into words almost everyone’s sentiments.

The management of the school highly applauded all the efforts that the students made, and it is already planning to follow through with this momentum. Apeejay School, further considering the mainstreaming of environmental education in its curriculum, has gone ahead to arm learners with skills for making decisions that offer positive change in communities.

It brought out the very practical application of sustainable living and created a sense of community and co-responsibility for all students and staff in sustainable living. As Apeejay School continues to hold such values, this sets an example for schools everywhere in teaching that small acts add up to make big, lasting impacts.

Apeejay School, Model Town’s ‘Work by Bike’ day has pedalled the turning wheel a long stride closer to a disease-free, healthy, and pollution-free existence. This aptly reminds one that the road ahead is not merely green if a community comes together for a cause but is full of promise for better health and a cleaner planet.
