In line with the mission to promote hands-on learning, Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA) conducted a workshop for the students of the Department of Beauty Culture and Cosmetology.
The department invited Parminder Kaur, an alumna herself, to conduct a one-day workshop to teach enthusiastic learners about hair rebonding and smoothening. Hair rebonding is a way of straightening the hair with chemicals thereby altering its molecular structure. The process can take up to several hours. Smoothening, on the other hand, adds to the hair sheen and makes it silky and manageable. It does not involve a change in the hair’s molecular structure.
The workshop at ACFA continued for about three to four hours where Parminder, along with her team member Chandraveer, gave a live demo of how to do hair rebonding and smoothening. Parminder, a university topper, graduated from ACFA in 2022 and is now working at Kaleem Salon & Spa, Jalandhar.

The Apeejay alumna also shared detailed information with students about the required tools, procedures, hair bonds, the chemical structure of hair, and more. She said that it is not enough to get rebonding done once but it also needs maintenance for it to last longer. “I told students about the techniques to take care of the hair after rebonding,” Parminder said.
In the highly interactive and engaging session, the students of BVoc Beauty Culture and Cosmetology put forward many queries, which got satisfactory answers from the guest speakers. “Students asked questions on hair texture and colouring. All of us thoroughly enjoyed the session,” the hair stylist added. “The students treated me with respect and appreciated me for the workshop. They clapped at the end of the demo because the result was very good.”
Dr Neerja Dhingra, principal, ACFA, expressed her views about this workshop and said that learning from professionally accomplished and experienced people is not only beneficial for our students but also a way of motivating them to continue their efforts in this field.
She applauded the efforts of Meenal Sandhu, HOD, Department of Beauty Culture and Cosmetology, for successfully organising the workshop.
Recently, the department also organised a special guest lecture on ‘oral hygiene’ in collaboration with the Department of Home Science at ACFA. The guest lecture was delivered by Dr Anju Sharma, a dental surgeon at Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi. Various other events are frequently conducted by the department for its students.
