Music, it is said, is more than just an art form; it is a powerful means of expression that nurtures discipline, confidence, and creativity. At Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park, young talents are encouraged to explore their musical passion and shine in competitions. Meet Navyansh Tanwar (Class XI) and Aadit Sethi (Class VIII), who recently won the first position at a zonal competition in the Classical Vocal Music in the senior and junior categories, respectively.
Navyansh, a classical musician and qawwali singer shared that he has been learning classical music for the past nine years from his guru. Winning the zonal competition this year is not new to him; he has won it for the third consecutive time.
“Last year, I cleared the district level and advanced to the state level competition held by DOE, where I also received the Best Singer award (2023–24). For me, classical music is the language of the soul. It helps me express emotions, refreshes my mind, and serves as therapy. One of my most memorable moments was performing at the state-level competition while sitting beside my guru, who appreciated my singing,” he said.
That encouragement motivated him to keep improving. Also, the school has played a pivotal role by providing opportunities to perform and, most importantly, connecting me with his guru, a renowned singer and pakhawaj player. “His guidance has enabled me to add variations in songs and even compose with sur and taal,” he added
Aadit, too, is deeply passionate about Indian classical vocal music. Alongside music, he enjoys reading, painting, and exploring cultural traditions. My fascination with the emotional power of music, combined with my family’s encouragement, drew me toward classical vocal. My journey began with the guidance of my school teachers who inspired me to pursue this art form seriously,” he said.
Winning first position at the zonal competition was a proud and emotional moment. “I felt immense gratitude toward my teachers and parents, whose constant support made this achievement possible. The most special moment came when my teacher informed me of my win; I felt joy, relief, and renewed determination to work harder,” he recalled.
Music has shaped his personality, teaching me discipline, patience, and confidence to perform on stage, he said. “Above all, it has helped me stay calm, express myself authentically, and connect with others through emotions,” he shared.
