Twenty-eight talented students from Apeejay School, Model Town, Jalandhar, displayed their creativity in a drawing competition organised by Thind Eye Hospital in collaboration with the Rotary Clubs of Jalandhar to mark World Sight Day.

The event graced by the Chief Guest DC Himanshu Aggarwal and Guests of Honour Dr Deepak Chawla and Dr Sushma Chawla was attended by 300 students from 17 schools in Jalandhar culminating in artwork for eye health importance.

Two students of Apeejay School, Model Town, brought laurels to the school as its students Lovroop Kaur (Category 1) and Inaaya Gaurav Bhagat (Category 2) received appreciation prizes for their artistic efforts.

The Officiating Principal, Ms Priyanka Grover congratulated the entire team and said that it’s a proud day to see such potential in our students and thank the efforts taken by the Coordinator of Activities, Ms Maninder Kaur, with the support of Ms Shweta and Ms Rajpreet in guiding the students.

Events like this are a great way to bring attention to important causes, especially eyesight problems, and such successes by these young artists continue to stimulate everyone in school.

Speaking about their prize, Lovroop, of class V, said that she came to know about the competition from Ms Maninder ma’am.

“I drew a drawing on ‘Love your eyes’ where I drew an eye and a stethoscope as the theme was Love your eyes on World Sight Day,” she shared and added that the best part about drawing is that it allows you to play with colours and express yourself!

I want to thank the school for teaching me the skills used in drawing, she said. “The school has provided me with the opportunities to showcase my love for drawing,” Lovroop said.

Sharing a similar sentiment, Inaaya, shared that the school has helped her to master her skills by encouraging and praising her. “I appreciate the school’s support. I also believe that the competitions I’ve gone to have helped me hone my art. I am also grateful to the art teachers for keeping me interested in art,” the class VI student shared and added that her hobbies include drawing and sports.

“For the competition, I drew on a small A4-size black sheet. I made a character, and behind him, I drew an eye, with slogans like ‘Love your eyes’ and ‘Eyes are made by the light, for the light’. Before the competition, I decided to practice what I was going to draw, and I found the perfect picture while I was searching for a reference. That picture is mostly what inspired me to make that drawing,” Inaaya shared.

She has been drawing for five years now and the best thing about drawing, according to her, is expressing feelings and thoughts through beautiful pictures. “I also like the excitement and satisfaction you get after making a piece you’re proud of. I enjoy it if I fail as well since I get to learn something new,” Inaaya said in conclusion.

Well done, Apeejayites!
