A significant event aimed at strengthening the collaboration between schools and law enforcement was held at the Godavari Auditorium, Andhra Association, Lodhi Road. The meeting, organised by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, saw a key representation from Apeejay School, Saket, with Middle School Incharge Ms. Sarita Chawla attending on behalf of the institution.
Cyber safety and responsibility: A digital priority
One of the major objectives of the meeting was to educate students about Cyber Safety and Responsibility. In today’s world, where young minds are increasingly engaged in online spaces, understanding the risks associated with the digital realm is essential. The discussion focused on promoting responsible online behavior, how to safeguard their personal information, and how to recognise potential threats such as cyberbullying, scams, and data theft.
Preventing substance abuse:
Another critical focus of the event was the Prevention of Substance Abuse. The alarming rise of substance misuse, particularly among adolescents, calls for immediate action. The event brought to light the severe consequences of drugs, tobacco, and other harmful substances on young individuals’ physical and mental health. It was highlighted that schools, in collaboration with the police, play a vital role in guiding students to make informed and healthy choices, and offering resources for students seeking help.
Mental health and abuse:
The event also addressed pressing concerns related to Mental Health and Abuse. With issues like sexual abuse, bullying, and stalking on the rise, it is crucial to foster a culture of safety and support. Discussions at the meeting encouraged schools and law enforcement to work together in creating safe spaces where students feel comfortable discussing their problems. Special attention was given to the need for proactive measures in tackling mental health issues and ensuring that students know where to turn for help.
Student training and orientation: Building awareness
Lastly, the event highlighted the importance of Student Training and Orientation. It was proposed that schools organise visits to police stations, allowing students to learn more about law enforcement and their role in society. These initiatives aim to build respect and trust between students and the police, providing students with the tools and knowledge they need to stay safe and responsible.
Dr. Sujeet Eric Masih, Principal of Apeejay School, Saket, praised the event’s significance, stating, “Apeejay School, Saket has always been committed to leaving no stone unturned in ensuring a positive environment for our students.” He further expressed his appreciation, adding, “Kudos to the team.” His words reflect the school’s unwavering commitment to providing a safe, supportive, and proactive learning environment.
This initiative marks an important step toward fostering a culture of mutual respect and trust between law enforcement and schools. By working together, they can ensure the safety and well-being of students in all aspects of their lives.
