Apeejay School, Sector-15-A, Faridabad, continues its commitment to nurturing young minds through engaging and experiential learning. Recently, the students of Class I from the Pre-Primary wing participated in an innovative hands-on activity designed to enhance foundational literacy skills in Hindi. Titled “Foundational Literacy through Hands-On Activity: A Joyful Experience,” the session focused on helping children learn through play, creativity, and collaboration.
The activity began with students enthusiastically arranging flashcards of the Hindi alphabet from ‘क‘ to ‘ज्ञ‘ in the correct sequence. This interactive approach helped reinforce their alphabet recognition and sequencing skills in a fun and memorable way. Taking the learning a step further, the young learners then used colourful wool to form simple Hindi words using the “आ” (aa) ki matra. The tactile engagement with materials like wool not only sparked creativity but also supported better retention and understanding of matras, which are foundational to strong language skills.
The objective of the session was multifold. Through the activity, children not only strengthened their word-building abilities but also gained clarity on how different letters and matras combine to form meaningful vocabulary. Their excitement and participation were evident as they worked both independently and in groups to construct words, showcasing their problem-solving and organisational skills.
This thoughtfully curated activity focused on several key learning outcomes, including:
· Recognition of the Hindi alphabets
· Word formation using “aa” ki matra
· Improvement in sequencing and vocabulary
· Development of cognitive and creative thinking
· Enhancement of language fluency at an early stage
Teachers observed noticeable enthusiasm, curiosity, and improved engagement among the learners. The success of this joyful learning initiative highlights Apeejay School’s dedication to making education interactive, meaningful, and developmentally appropriate.
