The king of all festivals, Diwali, recently knocked on our doors. It is the time of togetherness and celebration. However, even as we exchange our wishes, we often struggle to ensure a joyous Diwali for everyone. However, Diwali isn’t just a festival for us; it also impacts our furry friends. The celebratory mood with loud noises and flashes could induce anxiety in animals.
Diwali celebrations are typically about creating pleasant moments with our loved ones, from lighting diyas together to making rangolis. Unfortunately, for our furry companions, the experience could be quite the opposite. Instead of enjoying the festival vibe, they often face anxiety due to the loud noises and fireworks. What people perceive as fun with firecrackers has long-term effects on the environment and animals. Many animals suffer hearing damage from the loud sounds of firecrackers, contributing to air pollution. Animals, especially stray ones, are mistreated during Diwali, turning it into a festival of fear for them. Some individuals deliberately throw harmful crackers like kali-photka or chocolate bombs at stray dogs.
If Diwali is meant to spread happiness, it is crucial to consider an animal-friendly celebration. By taking a little responsibility, Diwali can become a festival of happiness for our voiceless friends. Let’s pledge to protect and care for animals not just during Diwali but throughout the year, making it a lamp of love for them. It is our duty to strive for a sound-free and eco-friendly Diwali for all.
