Long jump is a captivating and dynamic track and field event that not only showcases athleticism but also fosters a myriad of physical and mental benefits for participants. As a sport, long jump demands a combination of strength, speed, and technique, making it a well-rounded and exhilarating activity for students. Engaging in long jump not only contributes to enhanced physical fitness but also promotes discipline, focus, and perseverance.
In a remarkable display of sheer determination, Samhita Rengarajan, a class VIII student of Apeejay School, Nerul in Navi Mumbai, has clinched the second prize in long jump at the prestigious CBSE Athletics Meet held in Kolhapur recently. A poised individual who seamlessly balances her academics and sports, Samhita soared through the air, achieving an incredible distance of 4.53 metres in long jump. Her exceptional performance showcased not only her physical prowess but also her unwavering commitment to excellence.

CBSE Athletics Meet Extravaganza:

Amidst the grandeur of the CBSE Athletics Meet, where a whopping 1,500 students from 134 schools across the region converged to showcase their sporting prowess, Samhita’s triumph is fierce. It is a testament to her unparalleled skill and dedication. She says, “My sports coaches in the school, Ms Ganga Pillai and Mr Amit encouraged me to take part in the said competition.” Besides them, she credits Mr Srinivas, her sports coach based in Mumbai.
Notably, this is her first award in long jump. In the upcoming days, she hopes to make her mark in the YMCA tournament as part of long jump in the 100-metre category.
Representing Excellence:
In the vast sea of competitors, Samhita emerged as a beacon of excellence, representing not just her school but standing out among the best in the entire CBSE athletic community. She says, “I joined athletics in the Under-10 category initially, the simple reason being – I was quite hyperactive. So, to channel my energy, my mother and I chanced upon sports as a necessary entity. Later, I understood that athletics is more than running and started enjoying the journey.”
