‘She’: Poem by Anahita Dasgupta, Apeejay School, Noida

She was broken emotionally and physically
She was cold and she stayed away from people
She was scared to get attached again.
She was afraid to give, to care, to love.
Because each time she was taken for granted
She was afraid to trust again.

But,
She still believed in spreading and giving happiness
She brought smiles on the faces filled with darkness,
All because she knew how it felt to be one of them.
She still believed in spreading and giving happiness even if it was not deserved.

And,
She met him then, became friends, best friends,
She was scared, went back to her shell,
Knowing it will hurt again.

But,
She was given hope, trust and warmth.
She felt like she had never before,
She felt like her true self.
She heard him say, “I will be there for you.”
She had him by her side when all left.

And so,
Slowly she started falling for him, trusting him and giving him her heart and soul.

Then,
She expressed her feelings for him and he said,
“To me, you have always been a good friend and will always remain the same.”

And so,
Her story started over again,
From when she was broken again
