‘Sharpen your soft as well as technical skills’
This Apeejay alumna explains how effective communication is a must in the world of finance
Pallvi is an ace alumna from Apeejay Institute of Management & Engineering Technical Campus (AIMETC) in Jalandhar. She works at HDFC Life at present and loves embracing new growth opportunities with each new day.
Speaking about her time at AIMETC, Pallvi shares some special anecdotes and also offers some grooming tips to the budding professionals. Read edited excerpts:
Please tell us about your profession and describe a regular working day?
Currently, I am working as a sales professional with HDFC Life. My day at the bank starts with a morning huddle discussing the day’s agenda and the daily targets that are to be met. Then I follow up on all the leads and convert them. After that, we have an evening meeting with the manager held at the end of the day.
Throwback time! Any special memories from AIEMTC years?
Plenty! From participating in the college fests to organising events with friends and club members to conducting workshops are some of the memories I’ll cherish forever. AIMETC was a golden period of my life
How did the professors at AIMETC mentor you to become who you are?
My professors always stood by me whenever I needed help, be it with a subject or a project or an event. They assigned me positions of responsibility which ultimately helped me to grow in so many ways. I am ever grateful to them.
And what motivated you to join the world of finance?
The feasibility of the location and of course an undying interest in the world of numbers motivated me to join my current field. I feel very settled and happy here. Every new day is a day to learn something more.
3 must have skills to be in this field?
Customer service, product expertise and effective communication are the skills that one must possess for this field. And one can work on these and acquire these skills. It is doable!
Lastly, one piece of advice for all current students?
Work hard on sharpening your soft as well as technical skills. Gather experience related to your respective field which you can show in numerical terms. These will help you shine in the professional world.
