Shaheedi Diwas, or Martyrdom Day, is a special day celebrated every year on November 24 to remember the great sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, the Ninth Guru of the Sikhs. This day marks the moment in 1675 when the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb executed Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. His sacrifice is an important part of Sikh history and shows the strength of his faith, bravery, and the importance of standing up for what is right.
Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was born in 1621 in Amritsar, India. He was the youngest son of Guru Hargobind Ji, the Sixth Guru of the Sikhs. From a young age, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was known for his deep spiritual wisdom. His strong sense of justice and courage made him famous.
At that time, Emperor Aurangzeb was ruling India and forcing people to convert to Islam. Hindus, especially in Kashmir, were being pressured to give up their religion. Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji could not watch this injustice happen.
In a bold move, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji decided to give up his own life to protect the right of people to follow their own religion. He said that no one should be forced to change their faith. In 1675, when Emperor Aurangzeb ordered that all non-Muslims must convert to Islam, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji refused. As a result, he was arrested, tortured, and then beheaded in public. Despite the pain, he never gave up his beliefs.
On November 24, 1675, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was martyred in Delhi. His last words were, “I will not change my faith.” His sacrifice became a powerful symbol of standing up for religious freedom and human rights. His courage is not only remembered by Sikhs but by people of all religions who admire his fight against injustice.
Shaheedi Diwas is a day for Sikhs to remember Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s bravery. It is a time to think about his teachings and how we can stand up for what is right. On this day, Sikhs gather for prayers, hold processions, and listen to stories about the life of the Guru. The day reminds us that we should always fight for justice and protect the rights of others.
In conclusion, Shaheedi Diwas is not just about remembering a historical event but honoring the courage and sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.
