Service to humanity has always been regarded as the purest form of worship, and at Apeejay Stya University this belief stands at the core of the institution’s value system. The university strongly upholds the conviction that education is not limited to academic excellence alone; rather, it must also cultivate compassion, empathy, and a sense of responsibility toward society. One of the most important character traits that Apeejay strives to instill in its students is the principle of service-before-self, ensuring that they grow not only into capable professionals but also into conscious and caring citizens.
In alignment with this philosophy, the Rotaract Club of Apeejay Stya University (RaCASUG) organized a meaningful community engagement activity on Sunday, where a group of volunteers participated in Langar Seva at Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, Connaught Place. The event was conducted to commemorate the it’s 350th martyrdom of Guru Teg Bahadur ji, a revered spiritual leader known for his teachings of sacrifice, compassion, and righteousness.
The visit to the Gurudwara provided the student volunteers with an enriching opportunity to experience firsthand the essence of seva—selfless service without any expectation of return. They took part in various aspects of the langar preparation and distribution, including serving food, assisting in kitchen tasks, organizing utensils, and helping maintain cleanliness in the langar hall. Each task, though simple on the surface, offered deep insights into humility, teamwork, and the spirit of giving.
Through their participation, the students learned about the Sikh tradition of langar, a practice that symbolizes equality, unity, and inclusiveness. Regardless of background, identity, or status, everyone sits together and shares the same meal, reinforcing the idea of universal brotherhood. This powerful message deeply resonated with the volunteers, helping them appreciate the values of compassion and community service that Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji embodied throughout his life.

For many students, it was a transformative experience that extended far beyond routine university activities. Engaging in seva allowed them to reflect on their own privileges and responsibilities, strengthening their commitment to contribute positively to society. The interaction with other volunteers and devotees also fostered a sense of collective purpose and respect for diverse communities.
The event proved to be a proud moment for the Apeejay community, as it highlighted how education at the university goes beyond classrooms and textbooks. By shaping hearts and character, the institution continues to nurture socially aware individuals who value empathy and service. The Rotaract Club’s participation in the Langar Seva stands as a testament to Apeejay’s mission of creating not just successful professionals, but responsible and compassionate human beings.
Overall, the initiative was a meaningful and inspiring experience, leaving a lasting impact on all who took part.
