A well-rounded curriculum is something that includes a variety of subjects, a room for personal development, and provides an opportunity for extracurricular activities. Thus a parent needs to choose a school that offers a holistic approach for their children to grow.
This helps students make informed decisions about their careers.
Priyanka Singh, mother of Aarush Anany Singh, an LKG student at Apeejay School Charkhi Dadri, talks about how this school is an ideal place for students to become well-rounded and get ready to face bigger challenges in the future.
Excerpts from the interview
How happy is your son going to the school?
He is thrilled about attending school. He is always keen to explore new advents and activities. Earlier, we sent Aarush to a different school that was near our place. However, we could not see him develop any interest in anything. But now, when we compare his progress to Apeejay School, we can see how far he has come and learnt several things.
What was the motive for choosing this school?
Primarily we chose this school because Aarush’s elder sister is already a student here. After witnessing our daughter’s remarkable academic progress and experiencing the benefits of Apeejay’s comprehensive curriculum, we decided to enroll Aarush in the same school.
What are your child’s favourite activities?
My son is very active. He loves taking part in different activities which are held at school regularly. He has developed a strong interest in dance and has also been active in fancy dress competitions. To name a few, he participated in the Gandhi Jayanti and Ganesh Chaturthi competitions.
Positive changes in him ever since he joined this school.
He has transformed into a highly obedient and self-assured child. He has become more diligent than before. The credit for this positive change goes to the exceptional teachers at this Apeejay branch.
How do you manage his screen time along with his homework?
Aarush is not very addicted to using gadgets as of now. Moreover, in cases of managing his studies, I stand very firm and strict. As mentioned earlier, he is obedient. If I ask him not to use the phone, he listens to me and obeys. So, I don’t have to put in a lot of effort to manage his screen time.
What are your ways of encouraging him to study/read at home?
As a mother, you should not pressure your children to study. My son has a very close bond with his sister. Aarush usually studies with her. He has a keen interest when it comes to reading or studying.
Do you interact with the teachers about your child?
Yes. I pay close attention and interact with his teachers to know about his progress. I visit the school premises once every two months to understand and seek feedback, if any.
What is your parenting mantra?
It is quintessential to create a friendly yet nurturing environment to support your child’s academic excellence. I take my time to understand his behaviour and preferences. Based on this understanding, I devise activities that resonate with him, building a comfortable and trusting relationship. I firmly believe in avoiding any form of burden when it comes to a child’s learning and development phase.
