To spread a positive message among students about the dignity of labour, Apeejay School, Rama Mandi, Jalandhar, celebrated International Labour Day on May 1, 2023, with full zeal and enthusiasm.

A beautiful rendition commemorating the hard work of the labour class marked the beginning of the programme. This was followed by a thought by the peon Mr Rohit Paul, a poem recitation by the domestic help Ms Sheela, a quote read out by the gardener Mr Avinash. Besides, there was also a presentation on Punjabi folklore by the cleaning staff — Ms Paramjit, Ms Parmjit and Ms Kamaljit.

Meanwhile, Apeejay students presented an enactment and a choreography to mark the importance of the day. A PowerPoint presentation on the support staff of the school prepared by the students highlighted their hobbies and interests. They lauded the ceaseless efforts of the work force in the smooth functioning of the nation and the school.

“Labour is life and dignity of labour is philosophy of life that makes us to think giving equal respect to all type of work. No work is small or big but has importance due to essentialness.”

-AK Sharma, principal, Apeejay School, Rama Mandi

School principal AK Sharma in his address focused on the significance of dignity of labour. He encouraged students to respect and value the efforts of labourers and always be grateful to them. He emphasised the need to appreciate the work done by them as without their support, institutions and organisations cannot function smoothly.

Labour Day celebrations at Apeejay Charkhi Dadri

Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri, hosted a similar programme on Labour Day to teach students to respect those who work for them. It was aimed at reminding students that the workers are the real pillars of society, and they deserve our due recognition and our respect.

The tiny tots of preschool, pre-primary and primary classes celebrated the day with a fun-filled craft activity. Students of classes Nursery to IV made beautiful ‘Thank You’ cards and badges to express their gratitude.

A special assembly was organised on the occasion. The teachers briefed the children about Labour Day and its importance. The children, on the other hand, expressed their gratitude by giving self-made ‘Thank You’ cards, badges, and flowers to the maids in the school and other helpers including peons, gardeners, electricians, and guards. The young ones were overwhelmed by this act of thankfulness, and they fully enjoyed the day.

Rudrendra Basak, principal, Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri, lauded the efforts of the students and the school staff.

The activity was organised to forge a better understanding of the labour community among students, who must learn to respect and appreciate their efforts. By the end of the activity, the aim seemed to be fully realised. Overall, it was a fruitful day in which little ones were taught to be thankful to everyone.

“We celebrated Labour Day through various activities to honour the hardworking individuals who make up the backbone of our society–The teachers, administrators, and support staff who dedicate themselves to educating and shaping our future generations; the maintenance workers who ensure our schools are clean, safe, and welcoming; and the countless others who contribute their time, skills, and labour to keep our schools and communities thriving.”

-Rudrendra Basak, principal, Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri
